The foundation year is designed to give you a broad based experience of a wide variety of art and design subject areas. It will give you an insight into the range and expectations of different art and design disciplines and provide you with the knowledge, practical skills, ideas and critical judgement to go on and study at degree level. Employment within art and design careers is also an option after completing the diploma.
This course builds upon skills and experience studied through a previous relevant qualification. You will gain insight into different art and design disciplines, improving knowledge, practical skills, ideas, and critical judgement in preparation for further study at the degree level. Our expert and specialised teachers will guide you through the course requirements and help you develop your portfolio of work. With dedicated facilities at the English Bridge Campus, you’ll be in the right environment to progress in this fascinating topic.
There are three parts to this one-year course based at the English Bridge Campus.
Part one focuses on experimental work and developing skills.
Part two will enable you to develop your confidence, independence, and ability within your chosen area.
Part three is a personally directed project, externally assessed. Your final project will be included in the end-of-year art show, which is open to the public.
You will be required to complete three units of coursework, two are internally assessed, and the final unit is externally assessed.
Students have to provide their own materials, estimated material costs for the year is approximately £300. A contribution towards educational visits may also be requested.
You can progress to higher education institutions or universities. Alternatively, you can go onto full-time employment in the fashion and photography industries.
Each year students enjoy a residential ‘contextual studies’ visit to Paris.
