What does the course involve?
(September 2022 course):
Project: Leaf fold formed silver and copper earrings
In this beginner's course you will learn the basic skills needed to create your own leaf fold formed silver and copper earrings. You will learn to use a range of jewellery tools and techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment. Your experienced tutor will guide you through a range of techniques for basic introductory to jewellery making. You will have the opportunity to learn different styles and design ideas. You will be guided through the following project over the first few weeks.
Sawing/piercing - Using the jeweller's piercing saw to cut silver to size. Learn how to set up and use the saw and create a simple shape.
Annealing, texturing and shaping silver - Learn how to gently heat your metal to "soften" it, allowing you to then decorate your cut shape with texture and shaping techniques. You will also learn how to polish your finished design. Measure to size, form and shape a leaf and you will also learn how to use a hand held butane torch to solder your silver.
The remaining time can be used to create your own simple design using your new skills.
A selection of materials will be available to buy from your tutor at cost price. (Please bring a card for any purchases).
(November 2022 course):
Project: Textured Flower Ring
In this beginner's course you will learn the basic skills needed to create your own sterling silver textured flower ring. You will experience the use of a range of jewellery tools and techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment. Your experienced tutor will guide you through a range of techniques for basic introductory to jewellery making. You will have the opportunity to learn different styles and design ideas. You will be guided through the following project over the first few weeks.

You will learn to use a range of jewellery tools and techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment. Your experienced tutor will guide you through a range of techniques for basic introductory to jewellery making. You will have the opportunity to learn different styles and design ideas. You will be guided through the following project over the first few weeks.

In this beginner's course you will learn the basic skills needed to create your own sterling silver/copper stacking rings. You will learn to use a range of jewellery tools and techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment. Your experienced tutor will guide you through a range of techniques for basic introductory to jewellery making. You will have the opportunity to learn different styles and design ideas. You will be guided through the following project over the first few weeks.

How is the course assessed?
Discussion between tutor and the students as a group and as individuals will take place each week, to guide you to improve your skills.

How much does it cost?
A £20 materials pack is supplied for your initial projects. Please bring a card to pay for this pack to the first evening. A selection of materials will be available to buy from your tutor at cost price. (Please bring a card for any purchases).

Additional Notes
All the tools and materials you will need for the course will be available at the venue. Please bring along with you the following:
An apron: (this doesn't need to be anything special or expensive, just a basic apron, old shirt or overall to protect your clothes).
Hair band: If you have long hair please bring along something to tie it back with, for health and safety reasons.
Closed in shoes: We will be working with sharp and heavy tools, so please wear shoes which will protect your feet should anything fall off the work bench.
Sketch book/note book: Please bring along a note book for you own notes and design ideas. Notes will be provided to complement the techniques you will be learning but you may wish to make your own notes.
Pen and/or pencil: For note taking and your design ideas.
Container: It is a good idea to have some kind of container in which to keep your kit items, metal and any other bit and pieces. A good size is small lunch box sized but an old ice cream tub or take away container is perfect too.
Don't forget. Glasses, if you use glasses for reading and /or close up work please remember to bring them along.
