  • Who is it for?

    The National Extended Diploma is a two-year, full-time course  that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in construction areas before entering employment. It can also support learners who want to progress directly to employment in job roles in construction or a professional construction role and Higher Apprenticeships in the construction sector. It is equivalent in size to three “A” levels 

  • Entry Requirements

    Four GCSEs including maths, English and Science GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above or a vocational course at Level 2.

  • What does the course involve?

    Construction principles, design and technology as well as health and safety units to prepare you for employment, Apprenticeships and Higher Education in jobs such as Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Site Supervision, Contracts Management and Architecture. It also allows progression to the HNC in Construction and the Built Environment here at Shrewsbury Colleges Group.

  • How is the course assessed?

    There are fifteen units of which nine are mandatory. Three units are externally set and marked. Twelve assessments are internally set and assessed; using a range of assessment methods including assignments, reports, phase tests, individual projects, surveys, risk assessments and method statements.   • How much does it cost?

    Trips: A full or partial contribution to any trips must be made, the cost will vary depending on the details of the trip.

  • Additional Notes

     Equipment: we highly recommend that you have a 4GB memory stick or hard drive with a high capacity, lever arch file, note pad, protective footwear, and waterproof coat.

I wanted a complete change in career and had always considered becoming an architect. When I came to an SCG Open Evening, tutors suggested the route of Higher Education in Construction. It is a great hands-on course and I especially enjoyed learning about CAD, as this is a skill I need to become an architect.
