Who is it for?
Higher National Certificates (HNCs) / Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are work-related higher education qualifications that are highly valued by employers. The HNC/HTQ qualification related to the industry you work in will improve your professional status and count towards membership of professional bodies and other employer organisations. Studying an HNC/HTQ is also perfect if you are progressing from college as you’ll learn the skills needed to move into your chosen career. An HNC/HTQ is a Level 4 qualification and is equivalent to one year of higher education study.
Funding from the government means we can currently offer pairs of units from these higher technical qualifications for free. This modular approach allows employers wanting to upskill their workforce in specific topics, the opportunity to access this without having to embark on a full qualification. Funding is also available to individuals who can tailor their learning to their career aspirations and lifestyles.
Two units from the same qualification make a module of 30 UCAS credits and learners would need to commit to both to qualify for the free funding.
If you successfully complete your module and decide to enrol on a full HTQ, you will receive a £2,000 discount on your first-year fees.
HNCs/HTQs are assessed through assignments, projects, and practical tasks that you complete throughout the course. If you complete an HNC/HTQ, the grades in each subject unit are shown as pass, merit or distinction.
The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction Management for England is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world.
The Modules are free, and the delivery is a mixture of face to face attended sessions and online learning via the College Virtual Learning Environment, there will be key attendance dates that will be discussed on the first week.

Entry Requirements
All applicants are individually assessed on their qualifications, skills, and experience. You should have the desire to further your career in the Construction Industry and hold either a Level 3 NVQ Diploma or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Construction, a BTEC National Award, A Levels or equivalent. Ideally, applicants should also have GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent). If the applicant has the necessary experience within professional roles but not the appropriate qualification, then this will be assessed on evidence of work history.

Unit 5 - Legal and Statutory Requirements in Construction: This unit introduces the different areas of law that are relevant to the construction industry throughout the development process. Students will explore the laws of occupiers’ liability, trespass and nuisance to manage construction activities on-site, and the legal aspects of the sale and leasing process involved in the disposal of buildings, using the law of contract and land law.
Unit 20 – Site Supervision & Operations: Topics covered in this unit include: reviewing construction information; monitoring quality; identifying and notifying of defects; site safety regulations; health and safety regulations; people management; performance management; site meetings; contractor and sub-contractor relations.
These units feed into the Construction Management for England Pathway that will complete a full HTQ qualification.

HNC in Construction & the Built Environment
Previous Institution: Meole Brace School
I have recently been appointed as Contracts Manager with Bow Construction and wanted to further my knowledge. There are good facilities here and it feels very comfortable in the new HE Centre. I’m really enjoying the design element and learning about new innovations that are being used in construction. After I’ve completed the HNC I would like to go on to Wolverhampton University.

Level 1 Brickwork
Previous school: Thomas Adams School
I'm in my second year of brickwork and I've been learning a lot about attention to detail. I've got a part-time job on building sites on Mondays and Fridays where I work on extensions, new builds, renovations - anything you can think of really. At college, we learn the techniques and at work, I get to put them into practice.
Jordan Phillips
Level 1 Painting & Decorating
Previous school: Shrewsbury Academy
Painting & Decorating is a good trade to train in and offers great business opportunities afterwards. The tutors are good and I have learnt so much here – I have especially enjoyed learning how to wallpaper.
