This programme is designed to give you broad knowledge and understanding of the Construction Industry and to provide the technical skills training to achieve a level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating. Progression from the L1 course would be to the Level 2 Diploma in P & D or to a combined L2 NVQ/Diploma in P & D you should gain an Apprenticeship.
Successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification. You must be working at Level 1 or above in Maths and English, demonstrate commitment and motivation and be willing to study theoretical and practical components of the course. You will be required to take the CITB assessment paper to evaluate your ability to read and understand construction drawings.
Vocational Units (All units are mandatory): Carry out safe working practices in construction; Information, quantities & communicating with others; Building methods & construction technology; Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms; Preparation of surfaces (1); Apply paint by brush and roller (1); Apply wallpapers (1); Specialist decorative finishes (1).
Your work is continually assessed throughout the course with each unit having a practical and theoretical assessment task. In addition, you are required to pass an end of year exam in order to successfully achieve the diploma.
You will provide your own overalls, safety shoes, tools, classroom equipment and contribute to the cost of any additional enrichment activities.

Painting & Decorating is a good trade to train in and offers great business opportunities afterwards. The tutors are good and I have learnt so much here – I have especially enjoyed learning how to wallpaper.
