  • Who is it for?

    Computing and Information Technology is the basis of modern society. This two year Extended Diploma offers a varied range of units that will suit students wanting to gain computing and IT experience whilst also developing their interest in Computer Games Development. The practical subjects taught on this Extended Diploma will enable you to gain wide-ranging experience for a career in Computing and Video Games Development. Some of the potential careers include: Games Developer; Programmer; Project Manager; 3D Modeller; Website Designer; Software Developer; Quality Assurance Tester; Systems Analyst. This qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels, so you can progress onto a computing course in Higher Education (HE), either here at Shrewsbury College or University or you can use your qualification to make the move into employment.

  • Entry Requirements

    You need four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, preferably including Maths and English or a Merit grade Level 2 Diploma.

  • What does the course involve

    Examples of subjects covered include: Computer Game Design; Developing Computer Games; Computer Game Platforms and Technologies; 3D Modelling; Digital Graphics; Computer Animation; Website Design; Computer Systems; Programming; Software Design; Development and Project Management. Developing your maths and English skills in order to achieve recognised qualifications is also an important objective of the course as are a range of short modules leading to industry recognised certificates, designed to enhance the career prospects of students.

  • How is the course assessed

    It will be assessed throughout the course through practical activities, project work, some tests and assignments.

  • How much does it cost

    You are expected to provide a USB pen, hard drive/cloud software to hold your data; folders to hold your lesson notes and portfolio materials.

  • Additional Notes

    At the College there are a number of facilities: An extensive range of modern computer equipment, dedicated teaching laboratories, a well-equipped resource centre, which is available to you outside your normal class times and an on-line learning system that you can access from anywhere with an Internet connection. Should you choose to study smaller sized level 3 BTEC qualification other than the Extended Diploma you may have the option to study an A Level alongside. The options may include Biology, Business, English Language, Maths, PE, Psychology, and Sociology – but please check at your Group Interview. Options should appear when you apply for this course online.
