  • Who is it for?

    This course of study will provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for working in this specialist area of practice. You will consider issues encountered when working with children and young people and consider the particular boundary issues encountered when working in this field. Relevant models of human growth and development will be explored and you will have the opportunity to evaluate creative and expressive interventions.

  • Entry Requirements

    You will need to have completed a minimum of a level 4 Diploma in Counselling.

  • What does the course involve?

    • Models/theories: development theories to include – Bowlby, Erikson, Klein and Winnicot.
    • Major schools: key ideas about childhood and adolescence from cognitive-behavioural, humanistic and psychodynamic perspectives.
    • Counselling skills for use for children and young people- creative and expressive methods.
    • Ethical practice: issues of consent and offering confidentiality to children and young people – Gillick competence and Fraser guidelines.

    How is the Course Assessed?

    This course is assessed by an internally set and assessed journal of up to 800 words per session.
