This is a fantastic course to introduce you to a career in engineering. You’ll start by learning the basics, which will enable you to progress onto other engineering courses or apprenticeships. Our experienced and dedicated teachers will guide you through the course requirements in our purpose-built engineering classrooms and provide you with the practical knowledge.
A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3, including Maths. Other suitable experience will also be considered.
Course Content
This fascinating course covers a range of topics including:
You will select two units to suit your requirements, plus the compulsory ‘Working in Engineering’ unit. Additional activities include industry visits, guest speakers, fundraising events, and competitions.
Students will be required to attend Maths and English (GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2) depending on prior achievements and initial assessments.
Assesment for this course Includes online and written exams, practical assessment, and completion of a portfolio of coursework.
6 months (January start only)
On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering or Fabrication & Welding. An alternative option would be to do an apprenticeship in Engineering or Fabrication. Both these progression routes are available through Shrewsbury Colleges Group.
We’ll supplement the classroom teaching with visits to engineering companies to observe the skills you are learning being put into practice.
