Who is it for?
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapies is a VRQ level qualification aimed at learners who wish to pursue a career as a massage therapist. Learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include: commercial salons, spas, massage clinics, self-employed, cruise liners, airlines or hotel chains and care homes. Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 4 in one or more of the following areas: Salon Management, Complementary Therapies.
You should have a VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques or a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (General) or an equivalent qualification. Good communication and personal presentation skills. You must have an interview with the tutor prior to enrolment.
What does the course involve?
If you are looking to embark on a career as a Massage Therapist, this commercially recognised qualification is designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills required. Our expert teachers will guide you through the course and cover a full range of topics relating to massage therapy in our purpose-built facilities. You will develop communication and customer service skills and gain an awareness of environmental sustainability and commercial skills, all of which are highly valued by employers.
You’ll be taught topics such as:
- Health & Safety in the salon
- Client care and consultation
- History and origins of massage therapies
- Swedish massage
- Stone therapy
- Indian head massage
- Anatomy and physiology for the face and body systems
- Promotion of products and services
- Effective running of a business
- Pre-blend aroma massage
- Nail Technology (Gel and Acrylic).
How is the course assessed?
Assessment is carried out with practical observations in the salon, oral questions, written assignments and externally set online/ written exams. A portfolio of evidence is submitted to show a range of continual assessments at the end of the course.
How much does it cost?
It is an expectation of professional practice to wear a uniform whilst in salon sessions. It is advisable to purchase a kit to allow you to practise skills out of College. Order forms are available at the Group Interview event.
Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare you for employment, you may choose to study further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 4 such as an HNC/D in Business.
You will have the opportunity to compete in national and regional competitions, cross-college events and in the community.
Our course offers opportunities to go on trips and visits that will enrich your learning experience.
We also work with local providers to give you the opportunity of a mandatory two-week work placement later in the year.
Your problem solving and research skills will also be developed by our experienced teachers. Advanced masterclasses are offered in treatments such as Hopi Ear Candling and Lava Shells to enhance your CV.

I completed the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course and progressed onto the Level 3 Massage course. I am now loving using the skills I have learnt whilst working at the prestigious Lion Quays Spa carrying out an extensive range of Beauty treatments.
