Certificate in Understanding Dignity & Safeguarding in Adult Health & Social Care

This qualification aims to give learners knowledge and understanding of the key principles of dignity, duty of care and safeguarding as applied to adult health and social care.

Learners will investigate the principles and how they are applied in everyday work contexts. They’ll also have an opportunity to examine the dilemmas that can arise and the consequences when these principles aren’t upheld.

This qualification is designed primarily for individuals working with, or intending to work with, vulnerable adults in the health and social care sectors. It aims to give learners knowledge and understanding of the key principles of dignity, duty of care and safeguarding as applied to adult health and social care.

In 2013, a total of 176,000 safeguarding alerts were reported to councils with Adult Social Services responsibilities. One third of these cases involved physical abuse and neglect, making this the most common cause of safeguarding alerts. This qualification will provide you with a thorough understanding of how you could help protect innocent and vulnerable people who might be suffering from abuse, harm or neglect within the adult health and social care industry and the importance of dignity and safeguarding, which could help reduce these shocking statistics. The course comprises four mandatory units:

• Unit 01: Understanding safeguarding in adult health and social care
• Unit 02: Principles of dignity in adult health and social care practices
• Unit 03: Understanding duty of care in adult health and social care
• Unit 04: Understanding dilemmas and public concerns in adult health and social care
