We have experienced and expert teachers on hand to guide us through the requirements of the course.
We have fantastic facilities at our London Road Campus to help you develop your skills and knowledge and you’ll also be able to work in Origins, our award-winning commercial restaurant, which will give you a brilliant and valuable insight into the restaurant trade.
We cover the basic skills needed when serving food and drink, preparing food and cooking, all of which are essential for becoming a chef or working front of house.

The course is predominantly practical-based. You will also do a theory/tutorial session, where your portfolio evidence is recorded. Functional Skills in English and Maths will be studied alongside your course, as necessary.
Assessment is largely done by observation and evidence gathering. As part of this, You will develop and cook a three-course meal at the end of the year as a final assessment. You will be required to reflect on your assessed work and to set targets to aid your development. You will also cook a range of baked items, which will be assessed, graded and evidence used to infill into your portfolio.
It is a requirement that you purchase uniform and equipment and you will have the opportuntity to go on educational visits.
Upon the successful completion of this course, you will have the option to progress to the Level 1 in Professional Cookery or Level 2 Food and Beverage courses. An alternative option would be to go to do an apprenticeship in catering. We also work extensively to develop your skills and knowledge by providing in-house and external competitions and workshops throughout the year. Our links with the catering industry will provide you with great job opportunities.
