Who is it for?
Feeling confident with numbers helps in every aspect of life, whether that be measuring cooking ingredients, calculating how much paint you need to buy, or making sure you have been paid correctly, elements of maths feature regularly in our daily lives.
But if the whole idea of thinking about numbers makes you feel anxious, you’re not alone!
Around a third of the adult population say they aren’t a ‘numbers person’ and the same number again say they would like to improve their maths and numeracy skills, many for personal development. So, if you would like to improve your numeracy and don’t know where to start, this beginner’s course could be a great starting point for you.
No entry requirements are necessary. If you are aged 19 or over, live in Shropshire and don’t have a GCSE in maths (or equivalent) then you would be eligible.
What does the course involve?
This course will provide a gentle introduction to numeracy skills and help learners develop their confidence for further learning. Topics will include:
- Using numbers and number systems
- Using common measures, shapes and space
- Handling information and data
How is the course assessed?
There are no exams or tests. Our aim is to make sure you are equipped with numeracy skills so during the sessions your tutor will assess your work and provide feedback. There is also an option to complete additional topics at home online with our tailored software package, but this is not a compulsory element to the course.
How much does it cost?
If you are aged 19 or over, live in Shropshire and don’t have a GCSE in maths (or equivalent) this course is free to you.
Please bring a notebook and pen – we’ll provide the rest.
