Numeracy Upskill for ESOL Adults

This course is for parents for whom English is an additional language and will offer you an opportunity to explore your current knowledge of maths and develop your confidence in using numeracy together with your child. You will learn the vocabulary in different areas of maths including numbers, times and dates and data and learn some fun ways to support your child’s learning.

Speakers of English as an additional language, who are aged 19 or over, have lived in Shropshire for the past three years and don’t have a GCSE in maths (or equivalent).

This course will include support for accessing maths and numeracy skills for further learning:

• Developing language skills required to interpret and engage with numeracy and maths
• Recognising and understanding language and symbols used for numeracy and maths
• Developing skills to identify sums and calculations in questions and scenarios
• Developing numeracy and maths skills for further learning

There are no exams or tests. Our aim is to make sure you are equipped with appropriate numeracy skills so during the sessions your tutor will assess your work and provide feedback. There is also an option to complete additional topics at home online with our tailored software package, but this is not a compulsory element of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over, live in Shropshire and don’t have a GCSE in maths (or equivalent) this course is free to you.

Please bring a notebook and pen – we’ll provide the rest.
