This course is for anybody with a desire to develop skills and knowledge in the fields of Acting, Dance & Musical Theatre. It is designed to reflect the demands of the performing arts industry and is geared towards preparing students for progression into Higher Education on our own HND programme, University places, further professional vocational training, or into employment. The College runs a HNC and a HND in Performing Arts which you can apply to join after successful completion of your course.
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, preferably including English, or a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts or related area with a Merit.
As previously stated the course covers the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to progress in the field of performing arts. You will be required to attend college for four days a week, with extra time and possibly evenings needed for rehearsals during the build up to performances. Alongside the singing, dancing and acting strands you will explore the business and historical contexts of performing arts whilst also exploring aspects of marketing and freelance work. Throughout the course you will have opportunities to develop personal and professional skills which will improve your chances of employability.
Work is assessed through the completion of assignments. These will be predominantly practical and performance based with supporting evidence of reflective thought. You will be required to undertake relevant research, and present your findings. Practical units will usually culminate in a performance to the general public. These can be at the College theatre, a ‘site-specific’ venue, or at Theatre Severn in the town. A sample of students’ work will be seen by an external moderator to ensure national standards are maintained.
You can apply online via the APPLY NOW button. You can also apply for a second, alternative programme of study on the application page.
