The re-assessment course is for experienced plumbers and heating engineers who want to continue to install Vented and Unvented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems to comply with the appropriate Building Regulations and Standards (there is now a mandatory requirement that all systems be notified to Building Control Authority).
The manual for England/Wales covers Approved Document G3, Part L1 and Part P of the Building Regulations, while the one for Scotland references Part J of the Building Standards.
This allows the individual/business to register with a Competent Person’s Scheme allowing the self-certifying of unvented hot water storage systems installations.
If you choose not to join a Competent Person’s Scheme you will need to notify the local Building Control Authority.
Candidates must hold an existing certificate which must be presented to the assessment centre as evidence of holding the initial qualification.
A pre-course study pack will be sent out 14 days prior to the course start date for applicants to complete and submit ready for their course.
The study pack will be assessed during the course to ensure that it meets the course requirements (if it does not meet the requirements; the applicant will need further assessment).
The very comprehensive one day course starts with intensive training in the four modules, followed by the completion of three assessments.
Re-assessments normally consist of theory examinations.
Candidates must successfully pass all three assessments to gain the BPEC Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems Certificate and Competency Card.
Certificates are normally valid for 5 years. Candidates are eligible for reassessment within 12 months of expiry. This alternative course has no practical Assessment and is slightly shorter in duration than the initial assessment course.
