This course is aimed at experienced plumbers and heating engineers who want to install both vented and unvented hot water systems to comply with the appropriate Building Regulations and Standards (there is now a mandatory requirement that all systems are notified to Building Control).
The manual for England and Wales covers Approved Document G3: Part L1 and Part P; while the one for Scotland references Part J.
Once certificated, this allows the individual to register with a Competent Person’s Scheme allowing the self-certification of the hot water system.
If you choose not to join the scheme, notification to Building Control is still required.
Trainees must hold a recognised trade qualification at level 3 or advanced craft, Water Regulations or evidence of at least 5 years’ experience which can be verified through a letter from an approved employer.
A pre-course study pack will be sent out 14 days prior to the course commencing, this is for the applicants to familiarise themselves with the content of the course.
The comprehensive course starts with an intensive training session on the four modules, comprising Introduction, System Design, Maintenance, Regulations. There is also a practical element that covers the functional and safety controls.
There are two multiple-choice knowledge assessments and there is one practical assessment which covers installation and maintenance.
Upon successful completion of all three assessments candidates will gain the BPEC Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems certificate and Competency Card.
