Award-winning hairdresser, Lee Stafford, visited Shrewsbury to inspire college students.

Lee Stafford’s career began by cutting friends’ and family’s hair in his Mum’s living room. Since then he has won multiple awards, including Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year in 1998 and opened seven salons. He has now progressed on to education, through the Lee Stafford Education Academy and is passionate about sharing his wisdom with new Hairdressers.

Students spent 45 minutes with the well-known Hairdresser as he styled hair and answered questions. Lee showed them the twisted tong technique, a quick and relevant hairstyle that is taught in his many academies, whilst sharing inspirational stories and funny anecdotes. The students learnt how he became so successful, that his favourite electrical product is a chopstick wand and that the familiar Lee Stafford logo was created because of a dog-model called Rover.

Rebecca Edwards, Level 1 Hairdressing student from Shrewsbury said: “Lee’s talk was so interesting and really inspiring. Hearing his journey showed me that dreams are possible when you work hard. We have lots of professional demonstrations at SCG and it is such a great resource – we learn so much.”

Lee said: “I really enjoy my college visits. I was hairdressing for 25 years then started opening my academies – it’s my passion. It is amazing to teach and inspire the next generation of hairdressers. I wish them luck and hope to see them around in the industry.”

Jackie Swan, Service Industries Curriculum Leader, said: “We want to thank Lee for spending his time with our students. It was a great experience and I hope they can take away some valuable information today. It is brilliant that we can offer our students the chance to observe and talk to such high profile professionals from the industry – a real-life experience for them to learn from.”
