Last year, the cookshop team from AGA Rangemaster Group set SCG Art & Design students a challenge to create a design to be used on their textile products. The winner of that competition, Georgia Hudson, recently travelled to Porto, Portugal to see her design printed on fabric.

Georgia and Art & Design Curriculum Leader, Helen Morgan were given factory tours and treated to friendly Porto hospitality. They saw the cotton weaving process and Georgia’s designs being printed.

Georgia, 18, from Shrewsbury said: “The trip was so exciting for me and it was my first time abroad. To visit the factories and see the processes involved in the production of textiles was fascinating. I feel very privileged to have had this opportunity and can’t wait to see the products in store.”

Georgia has successfully completed her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design with top marks of D*D*D* and has now progressed onto the University of York to study BA (hons) in Curating and History of Art.

The design has now been printed onto fabric and made into AGA kitchen textiles, including chefs’ pads and oven gloves. AGA has offered to make a donation of the profits of the ‘Blackthorn Winter’ collection to a charity of Georgia’s choice - Georgia has selected Severn Hospice as her chosen charity.

Caroline Smith, Commercial Manager at AGA Cook Shop said: “It was such a pleasure to take Georgia to Portugal to see how textiles from our range are manufactured. She is such a bright and talented student and was so interested to meet the people who produce pieces for us.”

Helen Morgan said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for all of our students to be involved in - to learn about and understand the standards and professional requirements needed when designing for a specific client brief. Georgia’s design is tasteful and elegant, which I have no doubt will be very popular with AGA customers. The trip to Portugal was a wonderful opportunity for her to see the processes involved in manufacturing textiles at first hand. Caroline and all the people we met in Portugal could not have been more helpful and generous with their time - we are truly grateful. This project has provided Georgia with an unforgettable experience and we are all looking forward to seeing her design in the shops.”
