medical files being held by a doctor

Further to the Government statement over the weekend concerning the start of a new Lockdown period being on Thursday 5th November, Shrewsbury Colleges Group can confirm that all three campuses will continue to be open for students to attend classes physically throughout the Lockdown period.

The college has in place a series of measures to ensure the health and safety of students and staff during the time spent on campus and minimise the risk of infection. These include students being taught in subject/course ‘bubbles’ with amended timetables to ensure that interaction with other students is minimised. Face coverings being worn by students and staff during movement around the three campuses. Additional cleaning measures for classrooms and shared areas across the three campuses.

The college will be open for all students including part-time adult students who attend evening classes. These classes will continue as they are part of the college’s normal education provision. The Higher Education Centre at London Road will also remain open for their adult students.

We encourage all students to continue to attend college in the usual manner and continue to take all necessary precautions with their travel arrangements. We would recommend that all students using these means of transport to always have their student identification visible at all times and that students follow all guidelines appropriate for that mode of transportation. All college buses and public transport will continue to operate as normal.

Suspected COVID symptoms process

This is the College’s process if a student is absent due to suspected COVID symptoms;

  1. If the student has concerns about whether they might have COVID symptoms please use the NHS 111 online COVID symptom checking service or Call NHS111 to check whether their symptoms may be COVID related before coming into College and before reporting their absence as being due to possible COVID symptoms. This will avoid unnecessary absences/missed lessons.
  2. If the student indicates that they are absent because of possible COVID symptoms they may be contacted and asked to confirm some relevant information needed as part of the College’s COVID measures.
  3. Students must let the College know the date of their test once booked and the result of their test as soon as possible. If their test is delayed, please also let us know.
  4. If the student has indicated that they are absent because of possible COVID symptoms, then they are not allowed to return to College until a member of staff (normally our COVID Tracker) has confirmed by e-mail that this is appropriate. If they return to College without first obtaining this confirmation, they may be subject to disciplinary measures.
