Shrewsbury Colleges Group has warmly welcomed the report findings following the Ofsted monitoring visit in January.
The report has recognised the excellence of the work that we have done, both in terms of continuous improvement and in relation to the very specific challenges of the last twelve months.
The judgement from the report is that the college has made ‘Significant Progress’, the highest possible outcome. This finding further endorses the positive judgements made by the independent safeguarding auditor, the ESFA and the Further Education Commissioner.
James Staniforth, Principal of Shrewsbury Colleges Group said; “This report reflects the outstanding hard-work and commitment of our staff over a fifteen-month period which has been unprecedented for us all. COVID has been and remains hugely testing.”
“We’re very pleased that Ofsted has judged that ‘staff and students feel safe’ as we have worked very hard to demonstrate that this is the case and all our staff are delighted that this has been recognised”.
The report details the performance of the college in a number of key areas such as safeguarding, vulnerable students, teaching and learning as well as work experience provision.
Ofsted were also very positive regarding the college response to COVID. The report states:
“Senior leaders have worked very effectively with staff representatives to develop COVID-19-secure processes. Leaders have been particularly responsive to staff anxieties regarding their personal safety. Leaders have addressed these thoroughly and positively”.
The report also states that: “Leaders communicate very effectively with staff and students to keep them up to date with new guidelines. Staff say that they feel well supported and safe”.
James Staniforth concluded; “We were one of the first colleges in the country to be visited by Ofsted as part of their programme of inspections which are taking place during the Lockdown and I’m delighted that we have been able to achieve this outcome. I’d like to thank our staff for all the contributions they have made over the last fifteen months.”
