Shrewsbury Colleges Group (SCG) has celebrated students who have overcome adversity in its first in-person award event since the pandemic.

The annual SCG Star Awards were held yesterday to recognise students who have overcome adversity, personal challenges and succeeded in what has been a challenging 12 months.

Staff from the college were asked to nominate full time students, Higher Education students and apprentices. All students nominated will be recognised for overcoming a range of challenges or adversity whilst still managing to successfully complete their studies.

The event, held at the London Road Campus, was supported by the Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club who have supported the scheme since the awards began in 2017. President of the Rotary Club, John Law, presented the awards on the night.

“Congratulations to all who have received a nomination and those receiving their awards today. It is a privilege and a pleasure to continue to support the Star Awards for students at Shrewsbury Colleges Group,” said John Law.

Nominees and their families were treated to afternoon tea provided by Origins and Hospitality students at the college. Members of the Rotary Club, Governors and staff of the college all attended the in-person event.

James Staniforth, Principal and CEO of Shrewsbury Colleges Group, said: “It feels very strange to see everyone face to face, but I’m so happy to be able to celebrate this award in person. No one learns from an easy journey and the students who are here today have achieved fantastic success.”
