Shrewsbury Colleges Group working with Shropshire/West Midlands Public Health are offering all students the opportunity to get a vaccination at one of the college’s campuses over the next two weeks.
The college will have a total of four COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics on the three different campus locations during the student Induction Days. Each clinic will offer the Pfizer vaccine for people aged 16 and over on the following dates and times:
- English Bridge Campus. Thursday 9th September. 8.30am to 4.30pm
- Welsh Bridge Campus. Tuesday 14th September. 8.30am to 4.30pm
- London Road Campus. Wednesday 15th September. 8.30am to 4.30pm
- London Road Campus. Thursday 16th September. 8.30am to 4.30pm
No appointment is needed, students can just pop in and get vaccinated. Alternatively, clinicians will be on hand to answer questions and address any concerns people may have. Students do not have to be registered with a GP, need proof of address, immigration status or have an NHS number to be vaccinated but proof of age is recommended.
In England, young people aged 16 and 17 can now receive a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. The vaccine offered to this age group will be the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. This will provide around 80% protection against hospitalisation.
Getting vaccinated is the single most important step that young people can take to protect themselves, their families and their communities against COVID-19 and to help us all get back to normal.
Although 16 and 17-year-olds do not need parental consent to get the Covid vaccine, we would suggest parents and students talk about the vaccine before getting it done.
If you have any questions, please visit the NHS website or pop in to one of the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics hosted at the college campuses on the dates advertised.
For further details of this offer, please read the letter to parents here.
