As we approach the Easter break, we would like to inform students and parents/carers about the key dates that are coming up over the next few months.

Term Dates

Friday 8 April is a staff training day so the last day of lessons in college this term will be Thursday 7 April, but please note that this day will be a usual teaching day and students will finish at their normal time. We return for the start of the summer term on Monday 25 April.

Please note that Monday 2 May is a bank holiday, and the college will be closed.

The last day of the half term is Friday 27 May and college reopens on Monday 6 June. The LRC at Welsh Bridge Campus will still be open for all students during the half-term break. Opening times will be confirmed closer to the date.

Learning Resource Centres – Easter break

The LRC at Welsh Bridge Campus will be open, for all students, from 9am to 4pm during the Easter holiday from Monday 11 to Thursday 14 and Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 April.

The LRC at London Road Campus will be open as well for all students from 9.00am – 4.30pm during the Easter holiday on Monday 11 to Thursday 14 and Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 April (except on Friday 22 April when it closes at 4pm).

A Level Year 2 Exam Dates

Year 2 A level students have all been emailed with details for downloading their exam timetables from ProPortal. These will be available from 3rd May and exams begin from the week beginning 16th May onwards.

Please note that the exam boards publish a ‘contingency’ date where they could move any exam at short notice if needed. Students must therefore ensure that they are available up until this date, which this year is Wednesday 29 June – please do not make any holiday arrangements until 30 June at the earliest.

A level results day is on Thursday 18 August.

A Level Year 1 Mock Assessments, Dates & Study Leave

Year 1 A level students return on Monday 25 April for two days of normal lessons.

They will then have a first set of mock exams to gain experience in formal exam arrangements and provide them with a focus for consolidating their first two terms of A level study. All year 1 students have been emailed with details of how to access their timetables which are available on ProPortal from Monday 28 March.

The exam period runs from Wednesday 27 April until Wednesday 4 May. Within this period Year 1 A Level students will have a short period of study leave from Wednesday 27 April until Friday 29 April.

Students are welcome to come to college to use the study facilities during their study leave and A Level Art students may be encouraged by teachers to come in to use the studios during that time if appropriate.

Monday 2 May is a bank holiday. Normal lesson timetables will resume on Tuesday 3 May – students should attend lessons unless they clash with a mock exam in which case, they should attend the exam and then return to their lesson when the exam has finished.

There will be a second set of mocks after another two terms of study (Jan of year 2) followed by the real exams two terms later. These mocks will form part of the assessment evidence for teachers to use when deciding on predicted grades for UCAS, but they are not the only predictor – students should take the exams seriously and prepare thoroughly but please do not panic if they don’t go as well as hoped. There will be plenty of time for us to work with students to help make improvements if needed.

Vocational Art students – Year 1 and Year 2

These courses are assessed through continuous assignment work and therefore there are no mock exams for these students and no associated study leave – their timetables will run as normal throughout next term.
