Who is it for?
This qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to provide clinical supervision for counselling practitioners. It is aimed at counsellors who have acquired sufficient client work experience to contemplate the move into a clinical supervision role.
Participants will need to:
- have both supervisees and supervisory supervision
- be working as counsellors under supervision.
This qualification is designed to lead to an employed or voluntary role as a clinical counselling supervisor in a counselling agency or in independent practice. Supervision is an on-going professional requirement for all practising counsellors and those with a recognised qualification are more likely to find employment.

Entry Requirements
You will need to have completed a Level 5 qualification in Counselling or equivalent and have at least one year post-qualifying experience of supervised client work. Alternatively, you must have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling or its equivalent and have at least two years post-qualifying experience of supervised client work. You will need a satisfactory DBS check. You will also need to attend an interview and supply references from your supervisor.

What does the course involve?
This qualification is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and competencies to provide clinical supervision for counselling practitioners, you will consider:
- The supervisor relationship.
- Working ethically in the role of a supervisor.
- Culture and diversity issues that impact on the supervisory relationship.
- Agency settings and their role in supervision.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment is in two parts:
- A portfolio which will be internally assessed by your tutor. To successfully complete the qualification you must be assessed as proficient in all seven learning outcomes.
- A 3000-3500 externally assessed case review where you must be passed as proficient.

How much does it cost?
Please see fees noted above. (You may be eligible for a partial 19+ loan towards the cost of your course).
The examination/ registration fee is an additional cost (not covered by the loan) and is chargeable upon enrolment.

Additional Notes
Supervision work: minimum of 15 hours with supervisees.
Supervisory supervision: minimum of 5 hours supervisory supervision hours with a senior/experienced supervisor. This can be either one to one or group supervision.
Attend regular supervision groups scheduled by your course tutor.
