Who is it for?
An introduction for people thinking about a career in electrical installation. This Diploma covers; Health and safety, the structure of the construction industry, electrical installation craft skills and installation methods and electrical science. Within the qualification the learner will have the opportunity to utilise the IET On Site Guide and also be introduced to how regulations (including BS 7671) affect electrical installation. The qualification covers standard circuits as described in the On-Site Guide.

Entry Requirements
English and Maths GCSE at grade 3 or above to enable progression.

What does the course involve?
This course is an introduction for people thinking about a career in electrical installation. Whether it’s powering people’s homes or working on large-scale energy projects, there are lots of jobs in the sector that will be in demand – in or out of a recession. Our expert teachers will guide you through a variety of different practical tasks and techniques as well as give you a wider introduction to the basics of electrical installation.
The course covers the following units:
- The structure of the construction industry
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Site preparation for working in the construction industry
- Electrical installation wiring and terminations
- Fabrication techniques for electrical installation
- Electrical science and technology.

How is the course assessed?
Each unit will be assessed by written assessments supported with practical assessments throughout the year. Practical assessments are carried out in our workshops.

How much does it cost?
You will be expected to provide your own overalls, safety shoes and contribute to the cost of any additional enrichment activities. If you are aged 19 or over materials fees are payable on enrolment.

Additional Notes

When I was at school I knew I wanted to be trained in a trade and completed work experience with labourers – they advised me to become an electrician. There is a great atmosphere at the College and I want to continue with a Level 3 Apprenticeship after this year.
