This course is for you if you wish to develop your creative writing. You will investigate a range of elements and techniques which contribute towards effective writing, analysing a wide range of texts and developing your skills of evaluation. (This course has been designed to build on the Creative Writing course (PLR0CWE001-1819A), however the program is suitable for anyone with an interest in writing and it is not necessary to have completed the Creative Writing course.)
There are no formal entry requirements. An interest in wider reading and writing is desirable.This course is for you if you wish to develop your creative writing. You will investigate a range of techniques, a wide range of texts, literary critique and develop your skills of evaluation.
You will investigate a range of literary techniques, including a focus on: sensory imagery and emotive language, a variety of genre, developing characters and the nature and purpose of dialogue, through evaluating a diverse collection of texts, including your own writings. There will be opportunity to investigate and consider; building and developing plot and structure, creativity vs stereotypes, your audience and how to keep them reading and to evaluate different writing styles. The course topics are ‘tension in a small town’ and ‘an embarrassing experience’ and are designed to be flexible enough to accommodate individual writing styles and preferences, whilst providing a challenge.
There are no formal assessments. However, the course will be assessed formatively throughout and the course aim is that you will produce pieces of writing for each course topic.
There are no required additional materials or resources. However, you may wish to purchase books for personal use as the course progresses. (You will need writing materials/media) At the college there are the following facilities: An extensive range of modern computer equipment, a well-equipped Resource Centre (available to you outside normal class times) and an on-line learning system you can get to from anywhere with an Internet connection.

You will be required to pay your course fees at the time of enrolment, so please ensure that you bring an appropriate payment method with you, (as well as appropriate evidence if you are eligible to have any fees waived).
