This qualification is designed for students starting in the industry.

Entry Requirements
Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing or three GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
A high level of enthusiasm for this industry is mandatory and you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skils in order to provide services on paying clients in our Academy. Exceptional personal presentation is also paramount.

What does the course involve?
You’ll learn new skills in our purpose-built facility on this one-year course and our experienced teachers will guide you through the various aspects and requirements of this course. You will have the chance to participate in in-house and national competitions and to build upon your hairdressing and interpersonal skills, which can help you progress in this industry.
A keen interest in fashion and hairdressing is essential. You must be willing to work hard, demonstrate good communication skills and have excellent personal presentation.
This course includes:
- Client consultation
- Shampoo and conditioning
- Women’s and men’s cutting
- Styling
- Colouring and lightening hair
- Health & safety.
You will continue to develop your Maths and English skills and study GCSEs in Maths and English if you have not already achieved a grade 4.

How is the course assessed?
You will sit externally set online multiple-choice exams, meet assignment deadlines and be observed demonstrating practical assessments on paying clients in a realistic commerical environment.

How much does it cost?
It is an expectation of professional practice to wear a uniform whilst attending salon sessions. It is advisable to purchase a kit to allow you to practise skills in and out of College. You will be given the opportunity to attend competitions and Trade shows. Kit and uniform order forms are available on the website.

Additional Notes
Upon the successful completion of this course, you will have the option to progress to the Level 3 in Hairdressing. An alternative option would be to do an apprenticeship in Hairdressing. We can help you with this option, please go to www.scg.ac.uk/apprenticeships

Trips include: The Clothes Show and Hair, Beauty and Barber UK. All students carry out work experience for one full working week.

I chose to study hairdressing at SCG as it was the best option out of all the other colleges nearby. It’s a very creative course that I get to combine with my love of photography, to build up a portfolio of my hairstyles. We also get to enter our photos for inclusion in Concept Hair magazine.
