Learners who achieve this qualification are eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). As a beauty therapist, learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include: commercial salons, self-employed or counter consultants. Learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at level 3.

This is a challenging course, so you need high levels of self-motivation and a strong commitment to study. You must be willing to work as part of a team as well as independently and be punctual, reliable and enjoy working with people.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment is carried out with practical observations in the salon, oral questions, written assignments and externally set online/written exams. A portfolio of evidence is submitted to show a range of continual assessments at the end of the course.
How much does it cost?
It is an expectation of professional practice to wear a uniform whilst in salon sessions. It is advisable to purchase a kit to allow you to practise your skills in and out of College. Order forms are available at enrolment. Trips and excursions are available at an additional cost; these include the Clothes Show, Hair and Beauty Live and an 'In House' Competition takes place.
There are several options for progression from this course. It is possible for you to go on to study the Level 3 in Beauty Make-Up Techniques course or Level 3 Massage Therapies at Shrewsbury Colleges Group.

Level 2 Makeup and Nails
Previous school: Meole Brace School
I wasn’t sure I could do makeup and nails – I have always loved it, but decided to study business after school. However, I wasn’t enjoying myself and decided to take the leap of faith into beauty and I haven’t looked back since. After I’ve completed this course I want to progress onto Level 3. The course is fun and everybody is really nice – teachers and students.
