Who is it for?
This course is designed to lay the foundations for working in the music industry or progression to our level 3 course. It features a wide range of units that will challenge you to complete projects that are based on jobs in the music industry. Discover how music is made, performed, recorded, produced and how an artist makes money. Consider that every time that you hear music or sound on TV, Radio, Film, Computer games or any interactive media that a number of people have been involved in the process of making that sound or music. From the composer, performer, sound engineers, producers, editors and sound designers each sound must be made, recorded, edited, mixed and mastered ready for performance. From the sound of the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park to the sound of a gun-shot on a computer game to the music that accompanies the media, Music Technology is at the heart of the process from beginning to end. For those interested in Music Performance this course offers the opportunity to develop your rehearsal, composition and performance skills through dedicated units and multiple performance opportunities both inside and outside of college.
Our results are consistently above the national benchmarking from RSL for our level 2 and 3 courses meaning our students out perform their counter parts at other colleges.

HNC in Music Technology
I chose to study at Shrewsbury Colleges Group because of the brilliant resources and teaching. It’s also great doing a HE course closer to home because I am familiar with my surroundings and have all my family and friends nearby. I am aware that there are less women in the music production industry, but I know I have the ability to succeed. I’m excited for females in the music industry because things are changing

Previous school: Oldbury Wells School
I really enjoy music and wanted to go to a college where I could focus solely on that. I have learnt a lot at the College, the teaching is great and lessons are informative. I enjoy the live performances we do and the studios we use are professional and realistic. After College I am going to study a HND Music Performance course.

A Level Music (Business, Economics, Psychology)
Previous school: Church Stretton School
I will study Music at Durham University and then do a PGCE as I would like to become a college Music teacher. This has been inspired by the great teachers at SCG and all the hard work they have put in to help me. I learnt composition and theory and truly developed my skills as a Musician. I play classical guitar and never thought I’d be able to consider it as a future career. I also take part in the MaDA performances and am a member of the college choir - these are great confidence builders.
