Who is it for?
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Shrewsbury Town Football Club on this programme. You will be working with Shrewsbury Town in the Community and receive professional football coaching from an ex professional footballer. This programme of study is a unique opportunity for those who prefer to learn practically and wish to develop their football skills whilst building on developing their transferable skills. It will prepare you for employment and Higher Education. Depending on your ability and progression you may also have the opportunity to train and play with the club's Scholarship Programme.
This programme is primarily an education programme focused on young players that have played at a county or representative standard in the past. The young people that qualify for the programme will have the opportunity to be selected for the England national U 19's league squads.
Extended Diploma (3 A Level equivalent) 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including english or Maths. Aged between 16-17 applicants must be enthusiastic about sport and fitness with a particular interest in developing and mastering techniques and skills in Football to enhance performance.
You will need to be prepared to fully engage in all physical practical sessions, including fixtures where you will represent STFC in a National Development League against other Premier League and Football League teams as well as applying your skills and knowledge to successfully complete the requirements of the BTEC qualifications.
What does the course involve?
This programme of study involves delivery at both the College and Football Club sites with a minimum of six hours per week of practical sessions which will include Football Coaching from professional FA qualified coaches from Shrewsbury Town Football Club. You will study the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Coaching and Development which includes modules such as Applied Coaching Skills, Sport Development, Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport, Sports Psychology and Influence of Technology on Sport.
How is the course assessed?
The course will be assessed via continuous coursework throughout the two year programme. There will also be an externally set research project in year 2.
How much does it cost?
Selected players for this programme will be supplied with match-day kit along with a diet and training plan. Successful applicants will be expected to purchase their own STFC full training kit which is to be worn at every training session and matches.
The College/Club deliver various trips and visits that have costs attached to them. They are not compulsory. However if you wish to take part in any of these speak to any member of the sport team for information and availability.
