We specialise in Construction

Relationships are important to us and there’s nothing more rewarding than receiving a call from one of our ex-apprentices who is now ready to recruit an apprentice of their own. Whether you need an apprentice or on-site training for your existing workforce, we have a long-standing tradition of delivering training to your sector.

As active members of Shropshire Construction Excellence, the Shropshire Construction Training Group, and close working links with the CITB, we keep ourselves informed of the issues you face and have the expertise to help.

Higher Education

We offer an HNC in Construction and the Built Environment which can either stand-alone or form part of the Higher Apprenticeship in Site Supervision.

Experienced Workers

For those who have over three years of experience, but no qualification to show for it, we offer NVQs in bricklaying, carpentry and joinery.

Our state of the art Engineering & Construction Centre allows your workforce to learn in a fully modernised environment and benefit from industry-standard facilities. You are very welcome to come and see for yourself!

Meet our Construction Assessors

  • Allan Barratt

    Allan Barratt Lead Assessor, Construction

Allan is both a qualified joiner and site carpenter, having learnt on the tools with RBM Joinery. Over the years he has held various positions including Project Manager, Production Manager and a Directorship. Wishing to share his knowledge with the next generation, he moved to Walsall College where he lectured and assessed in carpentry before becoming the Curriculum Manager for Construction. Allan joined Shrewsbury Colleges Group initially as a lecturer last year but missed the employer engagement side of things, so moved over to the assessment side where he oversees the delivery team as well as managing his own caseload of apprentices and experienced workers.

  • Ralph Tailford

    Ralph Tailford Construction Assessor

Ralph has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years, gaining a vast amount of experience at all levels across many of the trades within the profession. He gained his City and Guilds Advanced Craft L3 Brickwork Certificate at Gloucester College of Arts & Technology following a stint in the Armed Forces and then a few years later, his assessing qualification at Lilleshall College of Physical Education.

He has worked at Shrewsbury College for over 6 years, assessing various bricklaying qualifications as well as supporting the apprentices. He is currently training to be a teacher so even more young bricklayers will benefit from his vast knowledge and experience.
