SCG student poses with his Jet2 certificate

SCG would like to extend a massive congratulations to our Travel & Tourism student Alex Georgiou who received their wings from Jet2.

Following a rigorous training period, consisting of 33 exams and a full day’s assessment, Alex got the news that he was successful, and is now on four flights a week, commenting:

“It was a rough few months with the assessment day and exams. I’m extremely busy now on flights and they’re so tiring, the next day you wake up with your whole-body aching!

“But honestly, it’s been great so far.”

Alex’s first flights were to Malta, Pahpos, and Antalya. On his first flight Alex was sat on the flight deck for landing and take-off, with a customer remarking how professional his conduct was during the flight.

“He thought I was joking when I said it was my first day!” Alex remarked.

The interview process is something that many students may not have experienced before, and Travel & Tourism staff at the college work hard to ensure students are well prepared for this. As part of the course students are equipped with the skills to answer questions about their strengths, their experience with customers, and how to use real examples from their part time jobs and college to show-off their knowledge and skills.

Mock interviews are conducted to try out these answers and ensure learners have practiced their handshakes before they leave for the interview.  They are also taught to understand the importance of researching the company and are clear about the job role so that they can ask thoughtful questions at the interview.

As such, Alex was able to answer questions such as ‘why do you want to work for Jet2?’ and ‘why do you think you’re suited to the role?’ with consummate ease.

This is just one of the exceptional opportunities available to those who study Travel and Tourism with the college. If you are interested in finding out more about the course, then please click the following link: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism (scg.ac.uk)
