More information

  • Who is it for?

The course is aimed at those who use or want to develop counselling skills in a variety of settings.  The course offers you the opportunity to identify, understand and evaluate key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling and practice and develop a range of interpersonal and counselling skills.

On completion of the course you will be aware of the skills required to initiate, maintain and conclude a counselling skills interaction and integrate these into your chosen setting.  The course provides a nationally recognised qualification in counselling skills to those who complete it successfully. Completion of this course does not guarantee progression to the Level 4 Diploma in Counselling.

  • Entry Requirements

This course may be eligible for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan. You must have completed a Level Two Certificate in Counselling Skills to apply. Please note we do not accept online Level Two qualifications

The course has been developed for those who recognise the importance of counselling skills and may be working in such areas as care, education and training, Social Services, industry and commerce and the Health Service. The course is also open to those who may be interested in using counselling skills in a voluntary setting.  You will be invited in for a Course Taster, which consists of a group interview and also asked to provide a reference. If you are currently studying with us at Level Two, the taster and group interview will be conducted towards the end of your current course.

  • How is the course assessed?

There will be 4 assignments, all of which are internally assessed, internally and externally moderated. Self, peer and tutor assessment runs throughout the course. You need to have participated effectively in the course and to have maintained a record of the key learning experiences.  There is an 80% attendance requirement.
