Health & Social Care students at Shrewsbury Colleges Group have gained valuable insight into the industry thanks to the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital.

Level 3 Health & Social Care students have recently received teaching sessions and additional careers talks from Senior Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), Stanley Mills, from Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital.

Mr Mills talked to the groups, as part of their course and helped them to look at careers in the health and social care sector.

Mr Mills said: “My role at the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital enables me to support students and teach them more about careers in the health industry and it has been important to continue promoting this profession during this difficult year,” says Stanley Mills.

“In the health industry, there are always students starting their career. Helping students in the hospital taught me how much I loved teaching and I am now studying my Level 5 Certificate in Education and Training at SCG.”

The sessions included practical elements where students were taught how to wear Personal Protective Equipment and how to prepare some of the equipment that is used in theatre.

Louise Pearce, Health & Social Care teacher at SCG, said: “This has been a valuable opportunity which students have really enjoyed after a difficult year where practical sessions have been much harder to run.
“Partnerships are beneficial for students and they enable them to have a real experience of the industry and learn from someone in the industry.”

The Health & Social Care department at SCG hopes to continue to work with Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital in the future supporting students who wish to pursue a career in the sector.
