Shrewsbury Colleges Group has responded to the notification of national strike action by teachers who are members of the National Education Union.

Strike action will take place on Wednesday 5 and Friday 7 July 2023 in all schools and sixth form colleges nationally. The strike action is in response to the continuing dispute over the demand for a new pay award for teachers.

The college will take action to minimise the impact of the strike on student learning and on exam preparation.

All students should attend college as normal unless informed otherwise. College trips will be unaffected by the strike action. All lessons will be registered.

The overwhelming majority of lessons will take place as normal. A small number of students will be affected by strike action. These students will be informed directly by the appropriate Curriculum Director of the alternative arrangements for their lesson(s).

Students will be contacted by:

  • Tuesday 4 July with the details of alternative arrangements for Wednesday 5 July
  • Thursday 6 July with the details of alternative arrangements for Friday 7 July

Students currently studying at the London Road Campus will not be required to attend college on Wednesday 5 July as previously arranged. They will be expected to complete their assigned tasks at home on this day.

The Welcome Day activities for students starting in September 2023 will go ahead as planned.

Students who have an assessment, exam or trip will be expected to still attend college to complete the exam or assessment or go on the trip on Wednesday 5 July. Adult and Higher Education students as well as Apprentices will be required to attend as advised by their tutors or teachers.
