Shrewsbury Colleges Group is delighted to announce that the Department for Education has recently awarded the college over £600,000 worth of funding to support the creation of additional capacity to grow and deliver high-quality university-level provision and Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs).

The funding, secured from the Higher Skills Injection Fund will be used to further increase our high-quality provision in higher technical qualifications (HTQs) and to further engage and support our local employers in the upskilling and reskilling of their existing workforce in meeting the skills needs.

James Staniforth, Principal of the college said: ‘We believe that our dedicated Higher Education Centre of Excellence at our London Road Campus is already fantastic now, but this additional funding will enable us to take our facilities onto the next level. The Higher Technical Qualifications are designed to support people to get the skills they need and that employers are crying out for. Therefore, it is hugely important that we have the facilities to allow our students to learn in a job appropriate environment.’

Matt Laws, Vice Principal for Technical and Vocational Education at the college added: ‘This is an outstanding opportunity for Shrewsbury Colleges Group to invest in specialist equipment, facilities, and the upskilling of our staff to deliver HTQs across the next two financial years. HTQs are high-quality, job-focused qualifications that have been approved as delivering the skills employers need. Our offer of HTQs is a great way to get the skills employers want - a route to well-paid, secure, and sustainable jobs.’
