SCG is delighted with the government’s recent announcement on fully funding apprenticeships in small businesses.

Shrewsbury Colleges Group is delighted with the government’s recent announcement that, from 1 April, it will fully fund apprenticeships in small businesses by paying the full cost of training for anyone up to and including the age of 21.

Mark Brown, Vice Principal for Apprenticeships at the college, said: ‘This is a fantastic development for the small businesses in the local area as it means that from the start of April this year, the cost of taking on an apprentice will be reduced considerably.’

He continued: ‘We know that many businesses in the local area have less than 50 employees. This has meant that for some of these businesses, the cost and burden of taking on an apprentice have been significant. However, with this funding boost, the business will no longer pay the training costs. It’s a superb way to give the young people of Shropshire more opportunities to start and develop careers.’

Any business interested in taking on a young person as an apprentice can contact the Apprenticeship Team at the college on 01743 653444 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for help and guidance.
