Exam being filled out

The Origins restaurant at Shrewsbury Colleges Group’s London Road Campus is celebrating the award of the AA College Rosette Highly Commended for the eighth year in a row.

Hotel and Restaurant inspectors recently visited the restaurant, a commercially run and licensed restaurant at the college and gave it top billing again. They ate from the February menu which included their meal of:

Tagliatelle with basil and walnut pesto, grilled courgetti and artichoke, and truffle oil. Followed by salmon with peas, prosciutto, cavolo nero, almonds, & watercress sauce. They finished with lemon meringue, lemon curd, lemon jelly, coconut yogurt with lemon & stem ginger sorbet

Curriculum Director, Jackie Swan, said: ‘We are incredibly proud to be one of a few colleges in the UK to be presented with this prestigious award again. It is a huge achievement for the restaurant as it is a training establishment. We think that our product and service are very good, however, our students are still learning about the industry, so it is really nice to receive this external recognition of their hard work and skills. We strive to reach the standards of high-end restaurants, and the AA inspectors were very impressed with our offer."

Dan Gibbons, Curriculum Lead for Catering and Hospitality added: ‘The restaurant gives students the opportunity to work in a professional environment and get firsthand experience of industry trends. Although they are supported and led by qualified, experienced chefs and front-of-house professionals, our students learn about the principles of cookery and food service in a real-life high-pressure environment."
