Exam being filled out

Shrewsbury Colleges Group is looking for new teaching and support staff to join the college in September to help teach and support the increased number of students who have signed up to study at the college.

Strong growth in student numbers over the last four years has meant that the college is looking to recruit more teaching and support staff to work across the three campuses in Shrewsbury. In addition to the increased number of staff working at the college, improvements will begin at the Welsh Bridge and London Road campuses to further improve facilities and increase the number of on-site classrooms.

James Staniforth, Principal and CEO of the college, said: ‘The increasing number of students coming to the college is down to the quality of teaching and support that we have in place for our current students. Therefore, we need more staff to maintain that quality for the students joining us in the future. We want to ensure that we maintain current student-to-teacher classroom ratios and make sure that students are supported alongside their studies.’

Donna Lucas, Vice Principal for People at the college, continued: ‘The college is already one of the biggest employers in the local community with about 550 permanent members of staff and with the increase in student numbers, we are looking for additional teaching and support staff. In some of the subject areas, the college will also support people from industry backgrounds who mightn’t have any prior teaching experience to achieve the necessary qualifications to go alongside their previous work experience.’
