Engineering apprentices bring home WorldSkills medals after designing and building an electric wheelchair from scratch.

A team of Ricoh Engineering apprentices competed in the WorldSkills UK National finals that took place at Birmingham NEC. The team of three took part in the ‘Manufacturing Team Challenge’ and had to build an electric wheelchair that they had designed and tested in their spare time.

An international artist representation agency approached Shrewsbury Colleges Group to get photography-enthused students involved in their I♥Shrewsbury project.

Tea & Water Pictures, based in London and New York, asked students to use photography to tell a story of somebody who lives or works in Shrewsbury. The winning student will have their photographs and story published in the first edition of the I♥Shrewsbury magazine and will also get the chance to spend the day with Jørn Tomter, an experienced and professional photographer.

Award-winning hairdresser, Lee Stafford, visited Shrewsbury to inspire college students.

Lee Stafford’s career began by cutting friends’ and family’s hair in his Mum’s living room. Since then he has won multiple awards, including Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year in 1998 and opened seven salons. He has now progressed on to education, through the Lee Stafford Education Academy and is passionate about sharing his wisdom with new Hairdressers.

A former Shrewsbury Colleges Group A Level student is hitting all the right notes in the multiple award-winning musical, Hamilton.

Stephenson Ardern-Sodje, who completed his Film Studies, English Combined and Classical Civilisation A Levels at SCG in 2009, has been singing and rapping on the West End stage since 2017 as a member of the Hamilton cast.

Bricklaying apprentices studying at the London Road Campus are to benefit from a generous donation of bricks and blocks from local contractor Morris Property.

The College has taken delivery of 2500, 65mm facing bricks and 288 solid concrete blocks that will be used by apprentices to build and then deconstruct walls as part of their practical training.
