Students from Shrewsbury Colleges Group have been working hard on their performances for their annual Christmas Concert, which is open to the public.

The students, who study at the English and Welsh Bridge Campuses, are putting on their festive concert in the Wakeman Hall on 18 December at 7.30pm to family, friends and members of the public.

David Wilson Homes has recently started working with Shrewsbury Colleges Group investing in six apprentices, five Bricklayers and one Carpenter. SCG offers a wide variety of construction Apprenticeships for school leavers and people who want to progress in or change their career, from a variety of trades through to HNC in Construction and the Built Environment.

Shrewsbury Colleges Group has held its second Apprenticeship Awards to celebrate the achievements of both apprentices training across a range of sectors and their employers who support their apprentices to ensure their success.

At a three course gala dinner and ceremony held at the College’s training restaurant Origins on Thursday night, nine awards were handed out to apprentices, including the Apprentice of the Year Award, Small Employer of the Year Award and Large Employer of the Year Award.

Shrewsbury Colleges Group are working with young offender learners and augmented reality in an Erasmus+ funded project.

During a previous Ofsted inspection at Shrewsbury Colleges Group it was suggested, after witnessing the augmented reality learning used within the subjects, that they collaborate with the prison service to give individuals the skills they need to unlock their potential, gain employment and become assets to their communities.

Shrewsbury Colleges Group students showed their gratitude to local war veterans at this time of remembrance with a free lunch at the College restaurant, Origins.

Last month over 40 SCG students attended the funeral of Royal Marine veteran, David McLaren Kerr, after the Royal British Legion made an appeal for people to support the funeral of the man who had outlived his only family. This moving event inspired College staff and students in Hospitality & Catering and Travel & Tourism to give back to the men and women who secured peace for their lifetime.

Students and staff from Shrewsbury Colleges Group concurrently performed Remembrance services at their three campuses on Tuesday.

 Seven-foot ‘Tommy’ silhouettes have been stood at the London Road, English Bridge and Welsh Bridge Campuses in the build up to this time of remembrance.

A book bench remembering Shropshire-born poet, Wilfred Owen has been installed at Shrewsbury Library thanks to collaboration with Shrewsbury Colleges Group.

Past and present students studying Fashion and Textiles with Shrewsbury Colleges Group have excelled at this year’s annual Textile Design Competition held by The Shrewsbury Drapers’ Company.

A former pupil has secured her dream job at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust and been Highly Commended at the National Apprenticeship Awards 2018.

Laura Sheldon, previously of Ludlow CE School, completed her A Levels with Shrewsbury Colleges Group in 2016. This set her on her way to becoming an apprentice, gaining a career, being named as a regional finalist in the National Apprenticeship Awards and getting Highly Commended.
