Level 3 C&G Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (2850-34)

Students will be expected to provide their own overalls/clothing for workshop, safety shoes.

For students that have completed a Level 2 City & Guilds qualification or candidates that have suitable working skills and knowledge. It may be possible to study A Level Maths alongside this qualification. Please ask at interview stage. This qualification can help you to progress in a wide range of engineering roles including: Engineering operative; Engineering maintenance technician; Mechanical engineering technician.

A Level 2 Diploma in Engineering or suitable industry experience. A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths and English.

This extended course develops the skills and techniques learnt on the Level 1 and 2 Engineering courses and progresses your understanding of the demands of a career in engineering. Our experienced teachers will guide you through the requirements of the course and help you to achieve your full potential. The course combines practical and classroom learning to give you a fully rounded understanding of engineering and equip you for the next stage of your education or allow you to progress smoothly into work in engineering.

The course covers the following units:

• Engineering health & safety
• Engineering principles
• Principles of mechanical manufacturing
• Turning
• Milling
• Computer Numerical Control (CNC).

You will learn through a combination of practical and classroom-based sessions.

Assessment for this course includes online and written exams, practical assessment, and completion of a portfolio of coursework.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to secure a job as a production engineer in the industry or to pursue an engineering apprenticeship. You can gain further qualifications by completing the T Level in Design & Development for Engineering & Manufacturing or an HNC / HND in Engineering. HNCs in Electrical and Electronic Technology, Manufacturing Technology and Mechanical Engineering are available to study at Shrewsbury Colleges Group.

We'll supplement the classroom teaching with visits to engineering companies to observe the skills you are learning being put into practice.
