Who is it for?
Drawing from the figure is a classic, traditional skill - these tutored life drawing classes are ideal for those wanting to learn and improve, to build a portfolio or for beginners who would like to just have a go.
Please note that there are 3 instances of this course, but they are all different - one starting in September 2022 (Life Drawing), January 2023 (Painting the figure) and Apri 2023 (3D Modelling the figure).

What does the course involve?
Please note that each instance of the course is different:
21st September instance: Life Drawing
You will experience using a range of approaches and techniques to develop mark making skills as well as focused drawing tasks topics include; studying the human shape and form, balance and capturing movement, composition, perspective and fore shortening in a friendly and relaxed environment.
11th January instance: Painting the figure
You will be introduced to the basics of oil painting. You will learn how to mix flesh colours correctly, use a range of brushes and pallet knives, mediums and additives.
You will be individually guided through a series of easy to follow exercises which will allow you to gain confidence and understanding of painting the human form in oil.
26th April instance: 3D Modelling the figure
You will develop your understanding sculpting the human figure using clay. Working from a life model you will use a range of measuring systems to create terracotta sculpture (torso). Tutor demonstrations will provide you with the knowledte to use a range of modelling tools and building techniques, to enable you to complete a final sculpture in clay. The final pieces, studies, along with any maquettes will be fired in the following days after the last session and the tutor will arrange collection after this process has been completed.

How is the course assessed?
Discussion between tutor and the students as a group and on a 121 basis will take place each week, to help you improve your skills.

September instance:
Please bring along an A3 sketchpad and the following materials:
A range of pencils (soft to hard 1 ie 2B – 8B)
A rubber
All other materials will be supplied.
January instance:
Please wear old clothes or an apron. You will need kitchen roll and/or old rags (the more the better).
All materials will be supplied.
April instance:
Please wear old clothes or an apron.
All materials will be supplied.
