Who is it for?
This course gives you the opportunity to investigate the knowledge and skills needed to use counselling skills and engage in a helping interaction appropriately. This qualification is useful for anyone who uses (or would like to use) counselling skills at work or in a personal capacity.

The course is also open to those who may be interested in using counselling skills in a voluntary setting. You will need to access the free “Introduction to Counselling Skills” taster which consists of a group interview prior to enrolling for this course, this will ensure the course is right for you and meets your needs.
What does the course involve?
You will have an opportunity to identify and practise a range of skills used when participating in counselling skills interactions. You will also be introduced to the key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling as well as the concepts of diversity and ethics and their importance in the use of counselling skills. You will have an opportunity to reflect on your personal and future development and identify potential sources of support.
The course will give a basic introduction to counselling and enable you to make a more informed choice as to whether or not to embark on vocational training in counselling. You will be provided with advice guidance as to “next steps”, however completion of this course does not guarantee progression to the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling.
