Who is it for?
Students with a keen interest and/or experience in either computing and IT and who wish to embark on a career in this field.
Entry requirements include:
• A Levels or L3 BTEC National Diploma / GNVQ Advanced or Relevant work experience in a responsible IT role.
• GCSEs for English and maths at grade C/4 or above however equivalent qualifications and/or work experience will be taken into consideration.
• Applicants without GCSEs will be required to complete initial assessments and may wish to consider the part time GCSE courses that the college offers both during the evening and daytime.
• Accreditation may be given for relevant work experience or prior learning for mature learners.
• To be able to study on this course you will need to have reached a certain standard of speaking English –please refer to the Course Specification for the IELTS requirement for your individual course.
What does the course involve?
A widely-recognised and highly valued business qualification that enables you to develop a range of skills and gain relevant experience necessary to progress a career in Computing.
In addition to developing a set of key skills valued by employers the course provides a solid platform for further study in the subject area.
The course includes the key computing subjects including: programming, networking, security, website design and managing a computing project.
A stimulating and challenging programme of study that will be both engaging and memorable and prepare you for a range of progression routes.
How is the course assessed?
This course is validated by Pearson and delivered over one year on two days per week. The programme is run on a 4 semester basis from September to June. The HNC is a broad-based qualification and consists of the following modules: Core modules: - Programming, Networking, Professional Practice, Database Design, Security and Managing a Computing Project. In addition to the six core modules there are two optional modules. These include: Website Design & Development.
Your work will be continually assessed throughout the course. The assessment will depend upon the particular module being studied. Typical assessment methods include assignments, developing portfolios, examinations, presentations and a Pearson set project.
The programme is designed to prepare and develop people for advancement in Computing and IT
The HNC is a recognised and valued higher education qualification. On achieving the HNC qualification, graduates may continue academic study to an HND in Computing and then BSc (Hons) degree. Gain Vendor Certification or move directly into employment in a range of computing and IT roles.
Students will receive ongoing one to one guidance and support in progressing assignments. Learning resources are provided and available from home via the internet through the college's Moodle system. HNC students are entitled to utilise the college’s dedicated Higher Education Centre.
Please note that this course will run dependant on student numbers, a final decision will be made on Friday 6th May 2022.

You will then receive a confirmation email from UCAS and the College will be in contact with an interview date. I love the college and it was really convenient to continue from the Level 3 computing course. The course is helping me decide what area of computing I would like to work in. I really like the social aspect of HE study as well as what we are learning, and it is interesting covering so many areas of computing.
