  • The Group supports the embedding of Equality and Diversity through its E&D Lead Governor, who sits on the Group’s E&D Committee and reports back both to the Quality Committee and the Board itself

In addition to fulfilling its legal obligations, the Group actively promotes awareness of an inclusive society through its students’ work in a variety of initiatives, learning materials and events that include Black History Month, British Values, Anti-bullying Week, International Women's Day, Holocaust Memorial Day and Mental Health Awareness Week. We've also had a variety of speakers and workshops from such organisations as Stonewall, Gender Matters, Refugee Action, The Ark, as well as the local Muslim community.

We also work with the local community, through FREsh, a registered society promoting equality, diversity and the elimination of unfair treatment and discrimination within and beyond Shropshire. Other involvements within the community include the Shrewsbury LGBT history festival in February.

British Values

The College is dedicated to promoting values which help to develop a strong sense of community and social and moral responsibility. It’s great seeing the improvements I’ve made on the course and I’m looking forward to moving on to an Apprenticeship. This is a great trade to work in as there are lots of opportunities to specialise in different areas of plumbing.

Level 3 Plumbing Apprenticeship
Previous school: Bishop's Castle Community College

I chose this course as I want to follow in the family trade. I’ve had work experience with my father, so I knew that plumbing was an area I’d like to work in. This is a very enjoyable course, covering lots of skills, as well as giving you the opportunity to work with new materials. After this course I plan to go on to an Apprenticeship.

 

I wanted to do something hands-on when I was older and not to be stuck in an office – I didn’t enjoy A Levels. I have enjoyed learning more in-depth techniques on Plumbing Level 3 as it helps you understand the practical and put it all together. You also gain the confidence to complete more jobs. I am currently working with SG Roberts and will keep that going whilst I do my Level 3 Gas next year. Eventually I think I would like to go into teaching and do the same things that the staff at SCG have done for me.
